Access to Information Request: Bengal Mountain Mining

The United Independents Congress has requested access to information from the Government of Jamaica regarding the mining of the Bengal Mountain area bordering Trelawny and St. Ann. The request for the access to information is detailed below:

Under the Access to Information Act 2002; I am making a request via this letter for access to information held within
your ministry (The Ministry of Transport and Mining). I am seeking access to the following documents as listed below;

  • ALL meeting notes, memos, letters and official correspondents by the Minister, State Minister and Permanent Secretary surrounding the application for exploitation (mining, quarrying or logging) of the Bengal mountain area bordering Trelawny and St. Ann.
  • ALL meeting notes, memos, letters and official correspondents by the Minister, State Minister and Permanent Secretary surrounding the appeal by Bengal Development Limited/Jamaica World LLC against the denial of the application for exploitation (mining, quarrying or logging) of the Bengal mountain area bordering Trelawny and St. Ann.
  • ANY and ALL reports from NEPA/NRCA including meeting notes, memos, letters and official correspondents by the Minister, State Minister, Permanent Secretary exchanged with NEPA and the NRCA.
  • Any relevant correspondence with any other government official, civic group or interested party(ies).
